Developmentally Disabled Teen Arrested For Hugging Child

Westminster Police say a developmentally disabled teen was taken into custody after hugging a small child. The child thought the teen was trying to kidnap him.

It happened Wednesday afternoon in a Westminster subdivision located near Zuni Street and East Midway Boulevard.

Police say the older teen was hanging flyers in the neighborhood when he approached the child and gave him a hug. The kid got scared and ran to neighbor’s home and told the neighbor the teen was trying to abduct him.

The police were called and took the teen into custody. His parents later picked up from the police station.

It’s not clear if any charges will be filed.
