2016 Selena Mac Cosmetics Makeup Collection

MAC Cosmetics launched its collection on Friday Selena in Corpus Christi, Texas, hometown of the singer. The collection went on sale on Saturday on the website of the company.

The radio producer Patty Rodriguez Angeles helped the idea of the makeup line a reality. Rodriguez launched a collection inspired Selena MAC in 2013 after the company launched a line in honor of Marilyn Monroe. Rodriguez wanted Selena commemorated in the same way.

“She’s an American icon. She represents the American woman,” she says. “Here’s this American girl who spoke perfect English, however, he is sung in Spanish. She lived culture in America. As a Latino, you relate to that 100 percent.”

For more than two years, Rodriguez pushed for the line.

“(MAC) is a mark of age,” she says. “In the time to get your first job, you go and buy your first bar or MAC lip liner.”

She sent information about Selena brand and its loyal fans, and stressed that Latinas are the best buyers of beauty. The company thanked him and agreed to consider the idea, he adds.

In 2015, Rodriguez started a petition change.org hoping to persuade MAC to act. Using the hashtag #SelenaQuintanillaforMac, the petition reached its initial goal of 5,000 signatures in less than 24 hours and eventually got 37,770 before MAC announced that he was on board.

“I think it’s amazing. It’s a powerful message that Selena fans are united in the love they have for her and who still want to honor,” says Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga, sister, bandmate and CEO and president of Q Productions, Inc., the label founded Selena entertainment for your family.

Quintanilla Arriaga worked closely with MAC to ensure that remained true to the iconic look of Selena. In fact, several line products are based on articles Selena cosmetic case.

“This line is not color options that wanted or MAC felt needed to be promoted or done,” she says. “This line is based solely on Selena look-and off the stage. They matched and created colors that Selena had in her makeup case. This line is it.”
