There is a bomb threat causing delays at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Two credible bomb threats were made on Delta flight 1156, which was coming from Portland, Oregon, and Southwest flight 2492, coming in from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, according to airport spokesman Reese McCranie.
The two planes were escorted to the airport by NORAD jets.
Both planes have landed and were evacuated. Bomb squads with canine units were sent in to investigate.
NORAD Media Relations Specialist Preston Schlachter confirmed that two F-16 jets launched from McIntire Air Force Base in South Carolina as a precautionary measure in response to Twitter bomb threats against two inbound commercial flights.
The Delta flight is being detained on taxiway for security sweep out of abundance of caution, according to Morgan Durrant of Delta.
Southwest Airlines released a statement shortly after 3:30 p.m. regarding the threats:
“Due a security situation, the aircraft operating Flight 2492 was taken to a remote area of the airport where Customers and the aircraft are being rescreened. Our number one priority is the Safety of our Customers and People. We cannot comment on the nature of the security situation.”
The airlines were informed of the bomb threats through Twitter.
