Internet Pronography has been a trending topic on all major social networks including Facebook and Twitter for the past couple of days ahead of the the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) top-level domain (TLD) expansion.
Top celebrities including Taylor Swift have purchased various domains that the general public to potentially buy and use for various dubious purposes.
The 25-year-old singer with the cleanest image in pop has purchased domain names TaylorSwift.porn and TaylorSwift.adult before they become available to buy as part of a public sale by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) set to take place on 1 June.
In a bid to allow easier searches for doctors, businesses and places, a raft of new top-level domain (TLD) names – the last bit of a web address – will become available to buy, including “.healthcare” and “.deals”, but also “.porn”, “.sucks” and “.adult”.
Microsoft Office, for example, has also registered Office.porn and Office.adult, CNN Money reports.
According to Ad Week, a select few businesses and individuals were offered the opportunity to buy addresses based on the new domains before they went on the open market for $2,500 (£1,600).
