When Kylie Jenner released her holiday campaign, she probably didn’t anticipate it would cause such a stir. The image, which depicted a pair of gold-coated hands and dark red lips, ended up being an almost-exact duplicate of indie makeup artist Vlada Haggerty’s work.
Vlada’s fans were quick to point out that Kylie’s dripping lips logo also bore great similarity to Vlada’s previous pictures. While Kylie remained silent on the matter, Vlada threatened to bring a lawsuit against the makeup mogul.
Then, over the weekend, Kylie broke her silence in an unexpected way, by posting some of Vlada’s work and encouraging fans to go check out her account. The post seemed like a roundabout way of giving credit where credit was due, although neither Kylie nor her Kylie Cosmetics team directly addressed the controversy.
Last night, she took things a surprisingly step further when she Instagrammed the original photo in contention. Kylie Instagrammed Vlada’s original gold fingers and red lips photo with the caption, “Check out this inspiring photograph from @juliakuzmenko and @vladamua! ???.”

The Fashion Law reports that no lawsuit was ever officially filed, despite the fact that Vlada hired legal counsel, so it appears that the possibility of litigation was enough to get Kylie to go back and credit the photo, albeit in a slightly roundabout way. It’s unknown — although unlikely — whether or not Vlada received any monetary compensation, but at least she’s finally getting the recognition she deserves.
