Donald Trump campaign manager dramatically Kellyanne Conway made a mistake during an interview with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly on Wednesday in defense of custom Republican presidential candidate attacking women.
As you may recall, Megyn Kelly was dragged through the mud by Donald Trump for more than a year because he was asked about his history of misogynous quotations for a primary debate. Over time, the own Fox News had to get involved and defend their host stars.
Knowing that he is able to participate that did not stop his campaign manager Kellyanne Conway on the same topic tonight.
Conway complained that Trump was unfairly criticized after Monday night’s debate. She added that Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton had attempted to “rough him up,” during the debate and in campaign ads, over “a couple of comments he’s made over 25 years or so with respect to women.”
Kelly took the opportunity to hit Conway hard.
Conway was the one who brought up “a couple of comments he’s made over 25 years or so with respect to women,” which Kelly pounced on.
“Kellyanne, come on,” Kelly said when the campaign manager complained that Hillary Clinton‘s ads against Trump weren’t nice. She reminded Conway that presidential campaign ads aren’t supposed to be nice and, moreover, that the ads Clinton is running to highlight Trump’s negativity toward women use his words.
Next, she rounded on Conway’s previous assertion about misogynistic comments made over 25 years.
“You know that’s not true. You know he has repeatedly made comments about women — about their looks, about their size.” She brought up his looks-based attacks on Carly Fiorina and Heidi Cruz only to be dismissed by Conway.
“She’s killing him with women,” Kelly exclaimed when Conway wanted to know why Clinton won’t stop bringing up her boss’s misogyny. Then, she — like MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski — brought up that just yesterday, he criticized Alicia Machado for gaining weight during a phone interview on Fox & Friends.
Conway again said she didn’t understand why Clinton keeps hitting him with negative ads.
“Because she’s killing him with women and she sees an advantage there and is trying to exploit it,” Kelly said matter-of-factly.
Kelly did, in highlighting some of Trump’s inconsistencies, note that he has no issue hiring or promoting women despite his history of berating them. Conway, was an example of that, she added.
Conway took that opportunity to tell Kelly that Trump should emphasize his female hiring record in the next debate.
Clinton decisively emerged victorious over Trump in the first debate, coming off as more presidential and better prepared, according to a new HuffPost/ YouGov poll.
Conway feebly said that Trump should talk more about how many women work for the Trump Organization.
Watch the entire slam session above and never forget that only a few years ago, Conway was sitting on panels and sharing her disgust with the unfair media coverage of female candidates’ and politicians’ looks.
“Kellyanne, come on,” she responded. “The ads that she’s running about him when it comes to his comments on women use his words.”
