TROY, OHIO – One man’s story of a traffic stop in Ohio, and the actions of the officer who stopped him, has gone viral for all the right reasons.
Mark Ross admits he and a friend were speeding to make it home to his family. He had heard the news in the middle of the night that his sister was killed in a car accident.
An officer, identified by Inside Edition as Sgt. David Robison, pulled their car over.
“I knew I was going to Jail due to a petty warrant,” Ross wrote in a chronicle of the eventsposted to Facebook.
The car Ross was in had been towed, since his friend had a suspended driver’s license, Inside Edition reported. Authorities in Wayne County, Michigan didn’t want to send anyone to pick the men up “because of the distance,” Ross wrote.
But instead of a trip to jail, Robison prayed for Ross and drove him over 100 miles to Detroit so Ross could be with his family in a time of grieving.
“It was just so overwhelming,” he told InsideEdition.com Monday. “They were trying to help us.”
Previous posts on Ross’s Facebook page show text messages he had sent to his sister, telling her he missed her and encouraging her to stay in school.
He thanks Sgt. Robison for his generosity, and for giving him hope.
“Everybody knows how much I dislike Cops but I am truly Greatful (sic) for this Guy,” Ross wrote in his Facebook post, which had over 97,000 shares as of late Tuesday morning. “He gave me hope.”
