Former Gov. Rick Perry made a principle of good character Monday night ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” but tripped the light fantastic far from the season premiere live.
Because subtlety has no place in a contest for fans of celebrities and professional dancers, Perry rocked one embroidered black western jacket flowers to complement their now glasses firm as he turned and walked on her dance partner pro Emma Slater the country hit “God Blessed Texas” by Little Texas.
Perry was clearly amused cut the rug with Slater, whom he referred to as having to take “a lump of coal to shine like a brilliant diamond.”
Unfortunately, the cha cha Perry was as stiff as bolo tie your group. Perry and Slater finished with 20 on 40 from four judges of the program, the lowest score of the night. Each judge gave the couple a 5 out of 10.
head judge Len Goodman dance called Perry “a little bit pedestrian, sometimes,” but still gave a ‘good on you “Perry to try without dance experience. Perry hopes to get at the time of the upcoming wedding of her daughter.
Julianne Hough fellow judge called it fun to watch, but definitely crazy sometimes. And always effusive judge Bruno Tonioli considered “bold, brash, not exactly subtle” and urged Perry to work at the time.
Perry took the low numbers of judges of the survey, er, numbers paddle calmly, calling his latest score of 5 “Amazing!”
At least the former presidential candidate still in the race in this race. No pair of eliminations first week of the series, with all sashaying contenders for the second week of the competition.
Now in its 23rd season, “Dancing with the Stars” continues to match famous and infamous faces of yesteryear and today with the most difficult hoofing professional dancers on television, as Jive, foxtrot, waltz and cha cha your way to the prize end – the coveted trophy shining mirror ball and all the bragging rights that this entails.
In addition to Perry, celebrity dancers this season include Olympic gymnast funny Laurie Hernandez, who Cha cha’d to – what else? – “American Girl” by Bonnie McKee, and Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte confused, who foxtrotted that – again, what else? – “Call Me Irresponsible”.
Other celebrities include Marilu Henner of “Taxi” fame, Maureen ( “Marcia! Marcia! Marcia!”) McCormick of “The Brady Bunch” and R & B artist Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds.
Even vanilla ice cream hit the dance floor, cha cha’ing with pro dancer Witney Carson his 90s hit “Ice Ice Baby”.
