Watch The Madame Bovary Official Trailer Feat. – Mia Wasikowska

Having already headlined big screen adaptations of the works of Lewis Carroll, Fyodor Dostoevsky and Charlotte Brontë (to name a few), Mia Wasikowska is turning her attention to Gustave Flaubert’s 1856 French classic, Madame Bovary. Set for a still-unspecified release later this year, the new film version has today released a trailer. Check it out in the player below and find the film’s new poster in the gallery viewer at the bottom of this page.

Also starring Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man, Notting Hill), Paul Giamatti (Sideways, American Splendor), Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, We Need to Talk About Kevin), Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus, Devil), Henry Lloyd-Hughes (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Anna Karenina) and Laura Carmichael (“Downton Abbey,” Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Madame Bovary is directed by Sophie Barthes with an adapted screenplay by Felipe Marino.

The story follows Emma (Wasikowska), who has always dreamt of a finer life than the one she has on her father’s pig farm. Marrying Mr. Charles Bovary would make this possible. Feeling trapped, Emma seeks solace with other men, including a passionate kindred spirit named Leon (Miller) and a wealthy nobleman, the Marquis (Marshall-Green). A series of affairs and the temptation of living above her means lead Emma down a dark path.
