He’s one of the world’s most famous footballers, even after retiring professionally in 2013.
And on Wednesday David Beckham proved he’s stayed in top form since then as he completed day one of the 22 push-up challenge without breaking a sweat.
The husband of Victoria Beckham completed the challenge which has been sweeping social media on an airplane after being nominated by director chum Guy Ritchie and he uploaded the evidence to Instagram.
Wearing a t-shirt with the sleeves rolled up, a pair of trousers and no socks, the former Manchester United player planted himself in the aisle of the plane and addressed the camera directly.
‘Mr Ritchie. You’ve challenged me to doing 22 press-ups continuously in 22 days.
‘I accept your challenge not because you asked me.’
‘I accept it for the 22 serviceman that take their life from PTSD every single day.’
He added that he has ‘seen the courage of our troops’ in Afghanistan and that he wants to do whatever he can to help raise awareness about the situation they face after leaving combat.
‘And by the way, that was at 44,000 feet Mr Ritchie,’ he cheekily ended the video.
In his Instagram post David tagged Justin Theroux and his son Brooklyn, suggesting he was challenging them to follow in his footsteps.
David has had plenty of reason to stay in shape of late, as he recently shot a slick print campaign for Haig Club Clubman whisky.
Sitting on a sofa against the opulent backdrop of Miami at sunset, the 41-year-old can be seen relaxing with friends as he sips on a drink.
So my lovely friend Mr Guy Richie the film maker and supreme athlete has nominated me to do 22 press ups consecutively for 22 days ( and by the way his challenge was that I do my first lot at 44,000 feet as he knows I’m travelling) ….This isn’t one of his daily routines where he likes to teach u a lesson and beat you, it’s for a very good reason… 22 service men kill themselves post conflict… 22 a day, basically 1 an hour. So I am doing what Guy R , Jason S and Charlie H are doing and supporting , respecting and appreciating all the service men and women and their sacrifice … we shine a light to support and help save lives … @guyritchie @justintheroux @brooklynbeckham
