Actress Danièle Watts was mistaken for a prostitute in Los Angeles and handcuffed after kissing her husband in public last week, according to BuzzFeed.
Watts, who played Coco in “Django Unchained,” was “handcuffed and detained,” she said. She and her husband, Brian Lucas, a chef, started “making out” in a car and were told to “stop putting on a show” by a passerby. Watts told BuzzFeed that they complied.
But the police showed up anyway and asked for identification. Watts refused and said she was walking away, and officers did not stop her, she said.
A second police car showed up, and the officers handcuffed her.
At the same time, officers were asking Lucas “do you really know her?”, Watts said. Lucas told BuzzFeed that he thought officers were implying his wife was a prostitute.
The two were eventually released, according to BuzzFeed. The Los Angeles Police Department has no record of the incident, since records are only produced for arrests, BuzzFeed reported.
