Sen. James Lankford is renewing his request for the State Department to immediately suspend the security clearances of Hillary Clinton and several of her former aides.
This push comes after the FBI released documents related to its investigation into Clinton’s private email server, which reveal a State Department official allegedly offered the FBI a “quid pro quo” to hide the full extent of Clinton’s mishandling of classified information.
The call for revoking the security clearances was first made in a July letter from Lankford and Senators Marco Rubio, David Perdue, John Barrasso, Cory Gardner, John Cornyn, Johnny Isakson, James Risch, Ron Johnson and Tom Cotton to Secretary of State John Kerry.
The senators argued that Clinton’s private server “left sensitive and classified national security information vulnerable to theft and exploitation by America’s enemies.”
“Failure to impose any sanctions for these clear violations of State Department procedure undermines the integrity of the State Department’s system for handling classified information and sends the wrong message to the Department’s employees,” the letter said.
