Mexican TV Host Renato Lopez Found Dead In Slain

Mexican actor Renato Lopez and a friend were found dead of gunshot wounds in the central state of Mexico, authorities said Friday.

The 33-year-old Lopez was found alongside Omar Giron, a publicist with the CMX agency that represented the actor.

Lopez was also a television host for E! Entertainment and a songwriter.

The bodies were found inside a vehicle in the town of Santa Maria Mazatla with “wounds caused by firearms,” the Mexico state Attorney General’s Office said in a statement.

The Mexican entertainment world expressed indignation over Lopez’s death on Twitter, with actress and singer-songwriter Dulce Maria saying she hoped his passing would not be in vain and actor Mauricio Martinez lamenting the lack of public safety in Mexico.

Lopez, who began his career by working as a model and acting in TV commercials, was host of E!’s show “Zona Trendy” and worked for the music channel Telehit.

He authored the song “Fuego con fuego” for Mexican pop diva Gloria Trevi, who wrote on Twitter that Lopez was an “excellent friend, talented composer and truly good person.”
