Kodak Black’s legal woes continue. On Monday the rapper was transferred from St. Lucie County Jail in Florida to Florence, South Carolina, where he is being charged with criminal sexual conduct, according to Sun Sentinel.
The XXL Freshman, whose real name is Dieuson Octave, is being charged with sexual battery stemming from an alleged incident that took place earlier this year, according to Major Michael M. Nunn, a spokesman for the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
“According to investigators, on or about February 7, 2016, Octave is alleged to have engaged in the sexual battery of the victim at a hotel located at 2120 West Lucas Street, Florence, SC,” said Major Nunn in August.
Black’s lawyers, however, say they are optimistic about their chances. “We are firmly convinced that he will be vindicated in that charge and shortly be set free,” said his attorney Gary Kollin.
A sex charge like this carries a sentence of up to 30 years in prison in South Carolina.
In August, Kodak was set to be released from jail after striking a plea deal on a separate charge. However, two warrants were found in the system while he was being released. As a result, Black was sentenced to 120 days in jail on drug charges for one of those cases. Now, he faces the criminal sexual conduct charge in South Carolina.
The 19-year-old has released new music from behind bars in recent months, including“Jailhouse Blues,” which dropped in October. “I ain’t had no guidance so I was committing crimes,” he raps on the track. “Ain’t had no daddy and that’s my reason why.”
