Rackspace Announces Enhanced Partnership With AWS

Rackspace has announced a new strategic channel partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in an effort to boost collaboration and provide customers with a more streamlined connection to the AWS cloud platform.

According to an official Rackspace release, customers often lack the internal skills and resources necessary to migrate workloads to AWS rapidly and effectively.

‘With this relationship, AWS and Rackspace are now able to work more closely to provide customers with their respective expertise, thereby enabling their journey to AWS,’ Rackspace said in the statement.

Firstly, the updated partnership aims to enhance the Solution and Migration Advisory Services feature, allowing users to easily access AWS resources and enabling Rackspace to design architectures which align more effectively with their customers’ workloads.

This includes assessing current workloads such as server types and configurations, network topology, evaluating security, governance and compliance requirements, and designing tailored systems architectures.

Secondly, the relationship will see enhanced shared workspaces. The Migration Service Delivery tool hopes to simplify communication between AWS Professional Services Resources and Rackspace engineers, providing customers with an ongoing operational support platform which can assist them with the migration of a wide variety of workloads.

Thirdly, Rackspace Advanced Migration Tooling will be introduced as an automated, ‘point and click’ self-service interface integrated into the Rackspace Control Panel. The feature is designed to allow customers greater flexibility and choice when moving their workloads to AWS.

‘We have worked closely with Rackspace over the last several years and have been very impressed by their dedication to invest in the capabilities required to become one of the next-generation leaders in the AWS Managed Service Provider (MSP) Partner Program,’ commented Terry Wise, global vice president of channels and alliances at AWS.

The release also noted that the new partnership will see greater collaboration between the two firms in helping to facilitate migrations to the AWS cloud platform within some of the world’s largest organisations, including their current work with global theme park firm, Six Flags.

‘As a 10 year Rackspace customer interested in moving to AWS, we were excited to learn we could still leverage the Rackspace Fanatical Support we were used to throughout our entire cloud journey, including our move to AWS,’ noted Sean Andersen, corporate director of interactive at Six Flags.

‘Rackspace and AWS have worked together with our internal team to help us plan and execute the successful migration of key workloads to AWS, and the alignment we have been able to maintain due to their close partnership has been invaluable,’ he added.
