Samsung Electronics has launched a new data monetisation solution for IoT devices within its ARTIK Cloud. The new service aims to increase revenue opportunities from interoperable devices and applications.
The monetisation system will allow device manufacturers and service providers to work in an open ecosystem with revenues generated directly from the interactions between devices and services.
For manufacturers, it means that they can now gain extra revenue from selling hardware products connected to digital applications. In short, Samsung ARTIK Cloud Monetization provides a brokering, metering and payments system, and a platform for making devices interoperable with third-party devices and applications and monetising data usage.
‘Samsung is committed to growing the IoT data economy,’ said James Stansberry, senior vice president and global head of ARTIK at Samsung Electronics.
‘Samsung ARTIK Cloud Monetization uniquely positions us to help device manufacturers find new ways to make money from IoT and enable more applications for their customers. This is part of our long-term strategy to facilitate the development of secure IoT products and services, promote wide-scale interoperability, and create a platform and business model for an entire IoT ecosystem to thrive. Like the mobile phone industry, IoT will be driven by open systems, interoperability and support from innovative applications,’ he added.
ARTIK Cloud already works with many smart devices such as Amazon Echo, Google Home, Fitbit, Jawbone, Nest, Netatmo, Hue and services including Twitter, Todoist and Runkeeper.
Earlier this year Samsung ARTIK IoT module was certified by SAP to run on SAP Leonardo IoT Edge, allowing ARTIK customers to use SAP Leonardo for edge computing needs.
Samsung ARTIK modules provide a hardware platform for edge processing. Samsung ARTIK 530 modules offer a 4-core, 32-bit ARM processor, with 512 MB RAM and 4GB flash memory. The ARTIK 710 modules are larger, with an 8-core, 64-bit processor and 1GB RAM, 4GB flash memory. Both modules contain an ARM MALI GPU for graphics applications, along with enterprise-class security.
