Tori Spelling Expecting Fifth Child With Dean McDermott

And baby makes seven: Tori Spelling is expanding her family once again.

“It was a total surprise,” Spelling tells PEOPLE exclusively in this week’s issue of her impending fifth child with husband Dean McDermott. “But we always wanted a big family. I’m really excited.”

The pair are already parents to Liam, 9, Stella, 8, Hattie, 5 and Finn, 4. Dean also has an 18-year-old son, Jack, from his previous marriage.

‘This baby happened at the best time,’  Tori continues. ‘Nothing is ever perfect, but I’m so madly in love with my husband and with our kids. The idea of adding to that is such a blessing.’

The news comes four years after Tori nearly died in childbirth after complications involving her pregnancy with Finn.

The actress revealed during an interview with US Weekly that she was diagnosed with placenta previa at the 20 week mark of her pregnancy – a condition where the placenta covers the cervix and causes internal bleeding.

The star was rushed to hospital, where she spent 10 weeks receiving treatment followed by four months of bed rest, and she was even close to having her pregnancy terminated to save her life.

She battled through and gave birth to Finn Davey McDermott at the end of August that year.

Dean and Tori, who have starred in their own reality shows Tori & Dean: Inn Love, Cabin Fever and sTORIbook Weddings, have also faced problems in their marriage.

Dean became embroiled in a cheating scandal back in 2013, which was documented in another reality show True Tori.

“Dean was saying, ‘We just got Finn out of diapers; I thought we were in the clear!’ ” says Spelling, 43, with a laugh. “For the first time this year, they’re all in school. So it’s like, wow. We’re basically starting over.”

Regardless of the inevitable adjustments — “We need a Sprinter van!” says McDermott, 49 — the couple, who recently celebrated their 10-year anniversary, say baby number five is definitely meant to be.

“This baby happened at the best time,” says Spelling. “Nothing is ever perfect, but I’m so madly in love with my husband and with our kids. The idea of adding to that is such a blessing.”

However, the pair underwent counselling, with the couple both reiterating their commitment to the marriage.

‘You know, it’s day by day and we’re working really hard on our relationship,’ Tori told Mario Lopez a year later. ‘We’re committed to each other as a family and you know it’s a horrible thing that we went through, and we had to go through it publicly.’

Wednesday’s happy news came after it was revealed that Tori owes $37,981.97 to American Express after the creditor successfully sued the reality star for the overdue balance on her account.

American Express received a judgment for the full balance, plus interest, against the Beverly Hills, 90210 star after filing a lawsuit in January.
