62-year-old Former Tribal Judge Accused of Child Molestation

A 62-year-old former Cheyenne-Arapaho tribal judge from Canadian County, Oklahoma has been arrested in connection with eleven criminal counts, most of them crimes against children.

Lehman Coyote was arrested at his El Reno home on Tuesday. He’s accused of eleven criminal counts, including one count of Rape of a Child, seven counts of Lewd Acts Against Children, one count of Child Neglect, one count of Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance with Intent to Distribute, and one count of Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation on Coyote in December, after they were contacted by a family alleging sexual abuse.

They accuse Coyote of fondling underage girls as recently as 2010, and according to an affidavit presented to the court, say the abuse didn’t just occur locally, but also happened while on out-of-state trips to Nevada and New Mexico.

The family says Coyote used drugs and bribes like money, video games, and trips to manipulate his alleged victims. Coyote was released Tuesday after he was able to post a bond of $270,000.
