Renton, Begbie, Sick Boy and Spud are set for a reunion as Trainspotting returns.
The trailer for Danny Boyle’s much-anticipated T2: Trainspotting dropped this morning – and we can’t wait to see it!
Ewan McGregor will return as Renton, who we watched work hard to get over his heroin addiction in the 1996 film based on Irvine Welsh’s novel.
The actor will be joined by original cast members Robert Carlyle as Francis Begbie, Jonny Lee Miller as Sick Boy and Ewen Bremner as Spud.
Novelist Welsh will also return in his role of Mikey Forrester.
The trailer features Renton’s famous “choose life” speech, but with a modern twist – urging people to choose “Facebook”, “Instagram” and “zero-hour contracts” – as he meets up with his pals for the first time in 20 years.
For the trailer at least, Boyle has even revisited to the iconic “Choose life” monologue from the original film, leavening in a handful of modern topics to let you know you’re in the 21st century: Facebook, Twitter, slut shaming, and revenge porn all get mentions. Although apparently everyone is still listening to 1995 club anthem “Born Slippy” by Underworld.
He claims to be off the heroin, but drug use features quite heavily in the trailer, as does nudity as Renton looks up old flames and gets up to his old tricks.
The trailer also features the kind of soundtrack the first film was famous for with Underworld’s Born Slippy playing in the background.
The original film was a box office smash, pulling in £4.7 million in its opening weekend.
T2 is set for release on January 27, 2017.
