Talented French photographer Florian Beaudenon explores the idea of why public and private behavior is so different. The question Florian tries to address is, do people behave differently when they are in private? Do you walk around naked when your roommate is not around? Do you do weird/funny stuff when you are alone? This issue has been the source of major research by various psychologists. Florian Beaudenon, take a rather artistic approach to this age old issue.
In a series Florian calls “Instant Life”, Florian Beaudenon offers a voyeuristic peek into the homes and lives of different men, women, and families, and invites viewers to inspect belongings and behaviors from a bird’s-eye-view. This, in fact makes it particularly interesting.
Each setting reveals the everyday behavior of individuals that often takes place behind closed doors. Subjects are seen doing mundane things like trying on multiple pairs of shoes, taking a bath, or just reading a book, yet the activities offer a fascinating insight into each person’s character.
Through interesting perspective, Beaudenon creates an uneasy sensation that the subjects may look up at any moment and catch viewers peering in on the intimate scenes. The artist says, “We must enjoy of every moment. The Instant Life project was created after this idea. Photography intruding, not without a bit of voyeurism, on the life of unknown persons. They have agreed to share a hobby, a moment of intimacy that is important to them and in which everyone can recognize himself.”
