
Coaches on NBC’s The Voice swooned over Maiya Sykes’ nuanced and sultry cover of Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me.” She had gotten just a few bars into her blind audition when she had all four judges in the palm of her hand, absolutely transfixed by her soaring voice.
Maiya, however, is more than just an amazing singer. She completed a triple major in music composition, political science, and African American studies at Yale, having also been accepted to Harvard and Princeton, then spent six years as a backup singer for Macy Gray.
