What You Missed At The 2014 MTV EMAs in Glasgow, Scotland, Hosted by Nicki Minaj – Full Recap

The MTV EMAs, broadcast from Glasgow, Scotland, were hosted by the fantastic hip-hop performer, Nicki Minaj, this year.

The show began with a young girl with pink hair, who looked like a younger version of Nicki Minaj, being pulled into a TV set and drawn through the years to the present day, when she was Nicki Minaj, hosting the MTV EMAs.

The Global Icon award was presented to Ozzy Osbourne later in the show by Slash. Katy Perry has been nominated the most amount of times, with nine altogether. Ariana Grande has the second most nominations, at six. Pharrell Williams and 5 Seconds of Summer both have five nominations each.

Ariana Grande kicked off the show by singing her hit, Problem. Then, she sang Break Free, and rocked the audience at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow out.

Six songs in all were nominated for the MTV EMAs Best Song award. They were The Monster by Eminem (featuring Rihanna); Dark Horse by Katy Perry (featuring Juicy J); Pharrell Williams’ Happy; Nicki Minaj’s hit, Anaconda; Sam Smith’s hit, Stay With Me; and, Problem by Iggy Azalea (featuring Ariana Grande). Ariana Grande took home this award with the song Problem. She was presented the award by Alicia Keys and British singer Emeli Sande.

Nicki Minaj said it was the 20th anniversary of the MTV EMAs. She said she wanted to give some o fht epeople in the audience a “Glasgow kiss” but then she said she had heard that meant a “head-butt.” Minaj introduced Kiesza performed Hideaway in a telephone booth onstage at the MTV EMAs.

Royal Blood, from the U.K., performed onstage next. They sounded great.

The five singers/acts nominated for the Best Pop award are Miley Cyrus, One Direction, Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, and 5 Seconds of Summer. One Direction won this award.

The award for Best U.S. Act had five people/acts nominated. They were Pharrell Williams, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Fifth Harmony and Eminem. The winner was chosen based on the votes of fans. Fifth Harmony was the winner!

There were five performers who were nominated for the MTV EMA for Best Hip-Hop performer or act. The five were Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Drake and Eminem. The host of the show, Nicki Minaj, won this MTV EMAs award.

Finally, the MTV EMAs award for Best Electronic performer/act had five performers/acts nominated. Those were Hardwell, Calvin Harris, Avicii, David Guetta and Afrojack. Calvin Harris was the winner.
