Spotify reduced the price for a premium account from $9.99 to $4.99 for college students in the U.S on Tuesday March 25. The discount will likely provide a solid spike to Spotify’s user headcount, which at last count tallied 24 million monthly active users and 6 million paying subscribers.
The only problem with this deal is that Spotify may ask for additional information and documents such as college email address or a copy of a student ID card, class schedule, letter from a college official, transcript or tuition receipt. OMG, the stress you have to go through just to listen to some music whilst you pretend to study!
The advertising-free subscription allows students to access its library of more than 20 million songs online or offline on mobile, tablet, desktop and home entertainment systems.
The deal applies only to students currently enrolled at a U.S. accredited institution, and Spotify will confirm eligibility using an applicant’s name, college name and date of birth.
College students who already has a subscriptions can still register for the discount, though the deal won’t be applied until the renewal date. As you wait for your subscription to be renewed, we have a playlist here for your enjoyment!
